Building Hoogly has always been about more than the product. We want to build a community of founders and People leaders who run companies where great people can thrive and share in the success, and where they actually want to stay.
On 2 September we took another step in that direction. Together with Qapita, we brought a group of founders and People leaders to The Pillars to talk honestly about culture, employee equity and what it takes to build and scale a company.
The format
We called it Culture & ESOP Hot Takes. Someone puts a strong opinion on the table and everyone has to pick a side. The credit for the format goes to Kai Zen at Qapita, because it was all her idea.
It worked better than I’d hoped. People picked sides and challenged each other, and the room didn’t nod politely at everything, which is what a morning about culture and equity needs.
What people said
Rayn Ong, Partner at Archangel Ventures, was in the room:
I love the hot takes topic format and audience interaction/sharing. Truly insightful stuff. Well done.
Georgia Kelaher, a fractional Chief People Officer, called it a great morning. It was good to see familiar faces and to welcome some new people into our growing community.
Thank you
Amit and Kai Zen from Qapita co-hosted the morning with us, along with Lucas Hakewill, Victoria Romeo and Alex Scholz. We loved working together and bringing our communities in the same room, and I have a feeling this won’t be the last time.
Bradley Delamare and The Pillars gave us a very special venue, and I’m still a little embarrassed that it took me this long to find it.
If you couldn’t make it, you missed the croissants but you haven’t missed your chance to join the conversation. We’re an inclusive bunch. Book a time with us and let’s grab a coffee, and you can see what else we’re up to on our events page.
